Christmas Eve

We finished all the candy and cookie trays, and gave them all out to our friends and families. My fiance is in New York working so he is with his family, and I am here with my mom. The rest of our family is in Michigan enjoying a very white and cold Christmas. I miss them all so very much. Mom and I played some yatzee and watched a movie, then listened to Christmas music and  had a lovely dinner, followed by a ride around the neighborhood to see all the lights. We did a quick check to see where Santa was (just heading into Detroit Michigan according to NORAD), and now we are off to bed!

This year we agreed to no gifts, as there is nothing we decided that we needed that was worth going into debt for. I did get some beads for my mom for a bracelet she wants, but I didn't get it made, so it is more of a Promise of a gift, which I guess is okay :) I did however end up with wonderful gifts, even though we had agreed on no gifts :) I got a new matress from my mom which they delivered tonight so my most wonderful christmas gift will be a wonderful nights sleep! And my brother and his family got me a gift card for amazon which I am so super excited about. I read a great quote the other day that said a book is a gift that you get to open over and over again. I agree! I love books and have a huge wish list on Amazon so I'm very excited to go check out all the new beading books..Any suggestions???

I hope that all my blogging friends are having a warm and wonderful Christmas Eve surrounded by your loved ones.

Merry Christmas my friends!

Oh Christmas Trees

When it comes to decorating for Christmas we have at times been compared to the Griswolds.  Our motto is you can never have enough decorations, especially when it comes to trees. I could explain it, but I think this one is just easier to share in photo's. Believe it or not, we decided to go mild on the decorations this year...

Sisterhood of the Traveling Bead Box Give Away!

Sisterhood of the Traveling Bead Box Give Away!: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

Another Batch Complete!

PHEW! Last batch done!

Now we just have to tray them up and give them away :)

Holiday Treats!

The cookie/candy madness has begun! Every year my mom makes everyone in the family, friends, neighbors, and others cookie and candy trays. She has done this for as long as I have been alive (I won't say how long that is!). As a child every year for my birthday we would decorate the tree. Then for my birthday party I would have my little friends over and we would decorate Christmas cookies. So of course, every year when it comes time to make cookies and candies I love participating. My mom can bake circles around me, and I think I make more of a mess then I do cookies.  This year we have decided that neither of us needs the extra sugar in the house, so we aren't keeping any of these goodies for ourselves. Interesting part is, I'm okay with that. I really just love the process more then the eating. I have really come to love how much enjoyment people get out of these trays when they receive them.

So, the past 4 days we have been busy working on cookies. And these are just the cookies. This isnt' the candy part. Mom also makes bon bons, fudge, turtles, peacon bars, and lots of other things I don't know the names for. It really is cookie and candy madness.

So I wanted to share some pictures of the process so far :)

Birthday Celebration

I had a very simple and lovely birthday celebration. Just my aunt, cousin, mom and me. My fiance called me several times through out the day. When I was young I wanted big parties. And as a child those usually included a sleep over. 10-15 screaming girls sleeping on the living room floor. I have no idea how my mother could stand it. Now, the older I get, the quieter I want things. For me the ultimate birthday celebration is..well...exactly what I had. A few of your favorite people enjoying a quiet evening together, and of course cake! Cake is the best! This year instead of one big cake, I got 3 mini cakes from the bakery. A carrot cake, chocolate mint (my favorite), and a strawberry shortcake. So we baked a bree, and had cheese, crackers, and cake. It was perfect! seriously perfect!

Simple Beauty

I'm always searching the internet for beautiful photo's of flowers. It's somewhat of a new fascination, the last year or so. I having a bit of trouble finding words this morning, perhaps just tired, but it's so much more then just a pretty picture of a flower.. I think probably the fact that they inspire me to create, to mimic their colors palettes, textures, fragility. They all just amaze and move me emotionally.

Anyways. Here are a few that I found on the internet today. Most didn't have names to go with them, so let me just give thanks to the photographers who were thoughtful enough to share these on the internet with us.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday surrounded by loved ones.

With such a tough year it's sometimes hard to remember to be thankful. So I just wanted to mention...that I am thankful for my fiance's love and for his recent accomplishments as they have brought him such joy,  for all of my family and my loved ones, for negative test results, for all of my friends here, for the health of my family, and for the people in my life who have been able to acknowledge their weakness's and being strong enough to ask for help. And with all the suffering around us these days I am thankful for what work I get, for the work my family and friends have, for a roof over my head, food on my plate, and the love in my life and heart.

(hugs)

I'm back :)

Yep, still alive. I had a fabulous and terrible week all in one. Terrible because of family drama happening in my life, but also fabulous because my fiance was here this week. We have been apart for 7 months. Not by choice, but like everyone today, we have to do what we have to do. Which means, he has been working in New York, while I am still here in Arizona. So after spending a week with him my spirit is refreshed, and once again I have a positive outlook on life!

Looking forward to getting back into the normal swing of things, and keeping the negative away :)

Anyone have an umbrella?

Who ever said when it rains it pours wasn't kidding. If all the cancer screening, and gullbladder testing wasn't enough to deal with right now...I rolled my ankle and now have a torn ligament too. Ready for the monsoon season to end!

On a brighter note. The two day yard sale went great! Made enough to make a dent in my cats vet bill, and my aunt and I went out for a fun night of bingo at the casino. Okay, so I get bingo might not sound like a fun time to a lot of people, but we have fun :) Get to hang out, girl talk, and try to win some money while doing it :) (No..didn't win any..maybe next time).

So after working the yard sale for two days my mom and aunt said want to go big lots? I said sure, because they were supposed to have some beads on sale, but they played  fast one and took me to urgent care.  So now I have lots and lots of time to bead while I lay in bed and heal :) If I can keep awake I might even get to catch up on all the blogs :) Yea!

I also have an order for a bracelet that I need to complete, and have also been wanting to try doing a "zentangle" so lots and lots to do :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

BACK YARD SALE! A LIFETIME OF JUNK FOR SALE :)

reflection

So far so good.  Doctors are confident there is no cancer, but I still have to go through a zillion tests, and continue to "watch" it. Also they found a large gull stone, so might have to do a little outpatient surgery to deal with that. Might have to...with everything else going on I'm leaning toward just "watching" that also.

Well the one positive thing on the big cancer scare is that you do a lot of reflection. And in doing so I've realized that I hold on to way to much junk!!! So I've spent a week cleaning out the house and am preparing for a HUGE garage sale this weekend. It is crazy the amount of junk I've held on to over the years. I have reached the point of my possessions owning me, versus the other way around so all must go!

I haven't beaded in two weeks so I am having major creativity withdrawal. I can't wait to get through this garage sale, and get back to what I love...my beading.

On a more fun note! I found some fantastic furniture for my studio at a used furniture store. That has created another major mess moving out the old, and bringing in the new (well new to me) pieces. So everything in my studio is a complete distaster, adding to the inability to get in there and work. I am very very excited about the new pieces though, and looking forward to getting everything put in it's place.

I hope everyone is well!

Have a beautiful week!

Hard Times

Hi everyone. I wanted to thank everyone for their super sweet comments on my last piece. Kind words from one's peers always mean a lot.

I know I keep saying I will catch up on your blogs, and I don't.  Please know my intentions are pure and honest.  It is just one of those times in everyone's life where everything seems to come up at you at once. I am strong and can handle what ever life throws at me; however, every once in a while I get knocked off my feet and need a hand up. I have wonderful people in my life that provide me with strength when I can't find my own. And I am forever grateful for them.

I do believe I will be fine. I believe that with all my heart, but until I actual get a all clear from my doctor, there will always be that underlying fear. Unfortunately these things take time. It would be so nice to be able to just take every test needed all in one day, but it doesn't work that way. It's take a test, wait a week, take another type of test. And so on so on, until it drags out from weeks to months. On top of all that I had to put to sleep Trouble (my chocolate lab of 14 years) yesterday. This is the 4th member of my animal family this year that has passed on from this world. My heart is broken from the loss of my furry babies.  Trouble had been with me the longest of all my pets. She has made 5 moves with me, lived in apartments, houses, and condo's. She has been her namesake, trouble for sure, but she has always been loyal, loving, and protective of me. She has had dementia for a year now, and it has gotten increasingly worse as time has moved on. She kept us all up at night, barking and pacing and basically being out of her puppy mind. She lost her hearing, and began having painful arthritis bouts. And just this week she could no longer hold her bladder. She would wet herself and cry. It was hard to make the decision, but I know myself I would not want to live like that, so we made the hardest decision, and helped her to move on.

So that is what is happening with me. As I said I know I will be fine, but I will also feel much better one I've gotten confirmation of that from my doctor. Which will take some more time.

Have a beautiful day everyone :)

Haute Couture Beading Contest

Hi everyone. If you are interested in entering a contest you need to check out this site! They have this really wonderful contest going on where you make pieces inspired by the Couture dresses they have provided. You just pick a picture that inspires you, make a piece, and email it to them with a brief description of why it inspired you. Easy as that! There is a list of fantastic prizes included also. I entered the piece in my last post. I've looked at the picture of the pieces already entered. I have to confess I am probably out of my league, but have to try right? Besides that I learned a whole new way to look for inspiration, and it was really fun to make the piece! So win or not I really had fun, and I plan to make some other pieces just for myself that are inspired by some of the other Couture pieces they have.

Good luck to anyone who enters! I hope you find it as much fun as I have.

Finally Finished!

hi everyone! I hope everyone is well. I do apologize for my absence. Sometiems it it hard for me to be on the computer. A mixture of lack of sleep, and the medications I take cause me to fall asleep as soon as I get on the computer, making it virtually impossible to do any blogging. SO please do know I have been thinking of you all, and will do my very best to catch up on everyones blogs.

So here is my latest piece :) it took several attempts, but I am pleased with how it turned out.

Homemade Bead Board

Hi everyone. Long time no post I know. I've been so busy beading, and then got knocked off my feet by a bout of salmonella.  I will try my best to get caught up on everyone's blog this week. I am anxious to see what everyone has been up to.

So if you are like me the little bead boards they sell always feel to small to work on. So I decided to make my own.

Each board measures approximately 21 x 15 inches. They are super easy to make. I took 2 - 3 flattened shipping boxes and taped them together. Any sturdy cardboard would work. Then I padded them with either some thick cotton fabric or a couple of the vellux bead mats you can buy for $1.00 or less at the bead stores. This makes them nice and soft to rest your wrists on, and also gives a little cushion to stick your needle in. I'm sure there are lots of other options, but the vellux mats, and cotton fabric were what I had on hand. Then I bought a yard of vellux fabric from Jo Ann's fabric store, using my coupon so it cost me around $8.00. Out of that I was able to make a wrist rest, 3 boards, a cover for my camera, and still have enough for either another board or another wrist rest. I wrapped the fabric over the top and secured on the back with a staple gun.

Easy as that and I have a large bead mat to work on. I love it as it is easy to swap out projects without having to pack everything up. I just cover with a piece of scrap vellux cloth to protect from dust, set it on the shelf, and grab another project that I am working on. I purchased some great little ceramic dishes from the dollar store that are shallow and wide enough to be able to easily string my beads onto the needle.

Here are some pictures:

busy busy busy

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I've been working on a beading project, which I have torn apart 4 times now. I am determined to make it work though, so it is has been consuming all of my attention. I am eager to see how it will turn out; however the perfectionist in me keeps willing me to tear it apart and start over, so I'm not sure when or if there will ever be an end to it. I keep reminding myself if I can just get through it, that I can always call it a prototype, and start fresh with a new and improved one once I get to the end of this one. I'm sure you've all been there :)

Anyways. I am hoping to catch up on everyone's blog and see what everyone has been up to this weekend. I am sorta penciling in Sunday for a day of blogging :) I also have several pictures of my studio that I took a few weeks ago, and am eager to share.

Okay. I gotta get back to the beading. Just wanted to drop a quick note to show I'm alive and say hi to everyone.

I know my contest/giveaway list is also behind. I will be updating that on Sunday also. So if anyone has any fun contest or giveaways please let me know. Would love to add them to the list.

Have a fantastic rest of your week, and a fun filled weekend :)

Ignorance and Arrogance...

IGNORANCE goes hand and hand with ARROGANCE. Okay, this happened a while ago, but I need to vent about SPRINT. I get my bill and there is a charge for one call for $40.00. Turns out it is to Canada. It never occurred to me that I couldn't call Canada as my calls are supposed to be unlimited. So I call, and I explain to the girl that I didn't know Canada wasn't included. This girl basically infers that I am ignorant, as she tells me that is is "Common sense" that  you can't call Canada.  Common sense she tells me. Now, I'm not sure if any of you have seen the sprint commercial where the man is bragging about how wonderful Sprint is and that you can call anywhere in AMERICA.

Ummmm...common sense right? So did Canada move to Europe? OR maybe Africa?  Hmmm..well as far as I know. Canada is still part of America, along with many other countries. It's funny how people forget that America is a continent and not a country. And sprint even chooses to advertise their ignorance and arrogance!

It's raining, it pouring,....

They say when it rains it pours. Sometimes it feels like life is one long monsoon season.

So after noticing an alarming use of the litter box I took my kitty (Jasmine) to the vet yesterday. Only to find out that my poor chubby kitty suffers Feline Diabetes. So now she has to have oral medication for infection, and 2 shots of insulin every day, plus weekly follow up with the vet. Poor kitty. I feel so bad for her.

SO, I just went through a 8 month period of daily medications and constant vet visits with my poor dog bodee who passed a few months ago. My cat (Juliet) is typically into the vets every 4-6 months for UTI infections and now I get to start all over with my kitty Jasmine.

I'm really ready for the monsoons to end. I need some sunshine :) The other day I said to my mom "it will get better" to which she responded "no it doesn't. That is just a lie we tell ourselves to get through the day" I had to laugh because I think sometimes she is right. If you made it this far, thanks for listening. today I am just feeling sorry for self and  I really just needed to vent. Tomorrow I will be back to my normal chipper self.

Have a beautiful day, and thanks so much for allowing me to pout and whine :)

Okay. So about the calendar project I guess it filled up really fast. Really really fast. However, she does have cancellation list so you can get on that if you want as I'm sure some people won't finish the project.

diary 2011 Project

Hi everyone. Check out this really fun project happening now. You can be involved. Your only obligation is to create a small 3 x 8 page showing your work. No obligation. Of course, it's a planner full of artist work, so sounds like something worth buying to me, but they say no obligation other then to hand in your page in time. That is free advertising! There are still dates open (not a whole lot that I saw, so I wouldn't take too long to decide).

Anyways..here is the info! Diary 2011 Project

So imagine my complete shock when I clicked on Art Bead Scene and saw my name listed as last weeks winner! It's true! I won I won I won. I am so very excited. I know everyone says "I never win anything" but it's soo very true. I don't ever win!

So you know what that means. If I can win, so can you! So I encourage you to jump on over to Art Bead Scene and post your comments. Each week it is a different artist, and you can win something from that artist.

So what did I win? I won a pair of these fabulous disks from Lynn Davis ! THANKS LYNN!

A few changes...

So i have found myself running across so many contest or giveaways that I want to share that I decided I needed to make a permanent spot on my blog for them. So from now on when I run into a contest or giveaway that I want to share with my friends there is now a section along the left side of my blog where I will keep a running list. I will do my best to keep things up to date. If you run into something you think I should add, or you are running a giveaway or contest that you want me to add please just let me know. The more the merrier, right?

Another change..I've moved my friends to the bottom of my page where you can all stretch your legs out! Instead of being squished on the side column I moved everyone to the bottom which gives room for not only your name, but your picture, and a part of your last blog. I like that much more!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day! i'm trying hard to catch up on my blog reading, but so many!!! It's amazing when you go away for just a few days how far behind you get on what everyone is up to.

A fantastic GIVE AWAY!

Here is another give away for all of you who like to try and win free stuff! What you need to do to enter this drawing is add their blinkie to your page and then post the link onto their web page so they know your entered.

Simply Renee Inc: Happy Birthday Simply Renee!!!: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

I don't always enter or share the ones that ask you to put a blinkie on your site;however I totally LOVE simple renee's clip it up products so I was thrilled to help advertise for them.   I've also included some pictures of how I personally use some of my own clip it up's.

I love this product so much I've purchased it as gifts for other fellow crafters. It's original purpose was for scrapbooking as far back as I remember;however they are wonderful for all sorts of crafting including beading, sewing, quilting, and much more. I have been a loyal customer of theirs since they opened their doors, and I have seen all sorts of fun things they do with their products. The possibilities are really endless, doll clothes, decorated with baby accessories and given as a shower gift, make up organizer, kitchen organizing, and there are lots more ideas on their site. And if you don't like black then paint it or decorate it to match your decor. They also provide tons of decorating ideas on their blog.

They do a lot of give aways so if you like the product be sure to follow them so you will be aware of all their contests. They are very sweet also. Many times I have read they posts that they don't only do a give away, but that they know the customers, and they try to make the prize something that particular customer doesn't have already. I always thought that was really nice of them, and more thoughtful then just giving something away that the winner may already have.

Okay. Obviously I can't say enough, and their products really do speak for themselves.

Have a fantastic day! And GOOD LUCK if you choose to enter :)

Who needs sleep?

Anyone else out there a total insomniac? I love the song Who Needs Sleep by barenaked ladies because I am a total insomniac so I can really turn up the song, and rock out to it at 3 a.m.

I have been running on about ..maybe 12 hours of sleep for the entire week. Lets just say I was dreaming while awake. And finally I just had 5 wonderful hours of uninterrupted sleep followed by a day of napping, 1 hour after another. Yes. Napping all day long. 1 hour at a time. Okay. If your an insomniac you totally get how wonderful that can be.  Well, an afternoon of napping, actually anyone can appreciate that lol. Obviously everyone has been sleep deprived at some point so all can relate. However I just feel the need to vent, to share, to blog i suppose.

So here is the thing with me and sleep. There has never been a happy medium for me. It has always been one extreme or the other. Either I do nothing but sleep, or I don't sleep at all. And when I say I don't sleep at all. I mean I average 1-2 hours a sleep a day. Or I'm on the flip side of that, and I can't keep my eyes open. During those times My forehead would already have hit the keys while typing this blog. LOL.  Have you ever shopped online in your sleep? LOL. oh yes I have. That's always a shocker especially when your on a tight budget. Sent a giberish email? god bless my close friends and family. They know me enough to know by now when the email they are reading goes from making sense to sudden gibberish that is the point when I fell asleep.

As if the sleep issue isn't a bowl full of fun on it's own I also walk and talk in my sleep. I'm a great secret keeper, unless you catch me sleeping, then I can't be held accountable for what I might say.

I have been accused of from time to time making messes in the kitchen in the middle of the night. Someone might wake up and find containers of random food poured onto the counter and mixed together. For instance...one morning there was a container of breadcrumbs poured into a pile with a spoon in the center of them, and I have a vague memory of a dream about standing in the kitchen eating cheerios. That sorta thing happens from time to time.

Okay, so here is a laugh at myself story. So, it's easter. My mom is doing the fun spring decorating, making the house look all pretty, and she is also boiling eggs and decorating them. I'm not a huge fan of boiled eggs. . So. :: shakes head just thinking of it:: I'm standing in the kitchen talking to my mom, and I say to her. I had a dream last night that I was eating your hard boiled eggs, and that they were really dry.  So, she checks. All of her eggs are intact, none gone. It was only a dream!  .... a few days go by. And I go to take the trash in my bedroom out...when ..wait..what is that in my trash......a Styrofoam glitter and sequin and lace covered egg that my mom had been decorating the house with..and yes my blogger friends..it has a bite out of it.

I must go create!

So excited to see 22 followers! Almost half way to the giveaway! Already thinking about the next giveaway.

Have a fantastic day! SWEET DREAMS!

The Magic Number is 55

Today I have 13 followers on my blog. i got excited when I got my very first follower (shout out to Kristin - Thanks for being my first :) and I get excited every time I sign on and see that number has increased. It's funny how we feed on that validation. "they do love me they do!!!" LOL. It is exciting though to make a new friend. So I was trying to figure out a number. At first I thought. 20, then thought no that was too low. Then thought double it. Well 26 is an odd number.. So then I get a little zealous and the song I can't drive 55 goes through my head, perfect a song worm working it's way into my head. That will be in there all day.  So 55, well that may be pushing a little high, but okay shoot for the stars right.

Once I get to 55 followers I will do a drawing and give away to one of my 55 friends this cute lil peyote stitched bracelet.  It's one of the first I made and I love wearing it with jeans and a t-shirt, and I am going to share it with one random winner.

So perfect! Once I have my followers I will make a posting of those who want to participate int he drawing for the bracelet. I'm hoping for the end of July. Do you think that is pushing it??? We will see. Shoot for the stars right. Build it and they will come and all that jazz.

Okay..I have already added two more since I typed this up this morning. So I'm already up to 15! YEAH!

Trash 2 Treasure Cont...

The chair that my neighbor put out in the alley to be collected as trash, my mom and I decided just had to much character  and that it would make a perfect treasure for my studio. Yes, it's true, I can hardly believe it myself. I dragged someones trash from the alley into my back yard. And there it stayed for the longest time. My neighbor is probably thinking at this time "oh great...i'm living next to the trash collecting girl" LOL.
I have to admit after 4 months I began to doubt it would ever get done..I almost took it back to the alley, but last week it finally got completed!

I'm really excited with how it turned out. So THANKS! to my Mom, because I am clueless when it comes to recovering a chair, and thanks to my Aunt Deb who also came over to help out with the project. No one is a professoinal here, but over all it turned out super sweet and fits in perfect for my studio! (Which I hope to also be photographing in the near future and blogging). And it is surprisingly comfortable so if anyone wants to come work in my studio for an afternoon I now have a chair for them to sit in!

HUGE $350.00 Bead Giveaway - HURRY June 26th Drawing

Denise is giving away a HUGE stash of beads. Absolutely beautiful arrangement of beads from her own stash that she will be giving away to either 1 or 6 person. It hasn't been decided. You can give her your opinion. I voted for 6 because there were so many beautiful beads to go around. Go check it out and put your name in for the drawing.

A Work In Progress

just a few pics of a project i'm working on, and an idea of my work space.  I always have several projects going on at any any given time, plus my journals full of projects I want to do, but this is the one that is getting most of my attention.

Something to Bark About

While reading Julie's blog (julie haymaker thompson) I see that she was asked to create a piece of artwork for A Place To Bark. (A Place to Bark ... and Meow) Congrats Julie!! I'm always excited about anything that helps out our furry lil friends.

Everything is just Ducky!

Lots on my mind today, just can't seem to get any of it down on a blog. So I thought I would share a simple photo of this cute duck kept chasing me in the park and just staring up into my camera. I felt bad I didn't have any bird seed for him. He was funny and cute.  He made me laugh. I love anything that makes me laugh :)
